• STRUM FUN 10:30 AM
Music is all about expression. In this workshop Zaza will demonstrate several techniques that define his smooth and groovy playing style. You will learn to add color and emotion to your music, with strums and dynamics that are easy and efficient - and some that require a bit more practice. All ideas in the workshop work for most styles of music. Suitable for all levels.
• SWING IT! 11:30 AM
In this workshop Zaza will teach you the basics (and beyond!) of swing music, from laid-back after-beat variations to the quintessential gypsy jazz rhythm: “la pompe”. Most toe-tapping techniques taught in this workshop work for other music styles as well. Suitable for all levels.
• Triplets Galore 1:30 PMThe triplet is the ultimate traditional ukulele strum. Like most strumming hand techniques, it’s basically a dance of the hand, in this case with two fingers and a loose wrist. In this workshop you will learn the basic triplet (no problems there), turn it into the quintessential ukulele groove (requiring a tiny bit more focus) and morph it into a fierce but fluent roll (which you may not master straight away, but isn’t it fun to take something home to practise as well?) Suitable for all levels.
• Maui Chimes 2:30 PM
Two chords and a whole lotta fun, those are the ingredients for this workshop that teaches you a quintessential piece of Hawaiian music history. Originally played on steel guitar using harmonics (“chimes”), the melody works really well on ukulele too (without harmonics). It’s fairly easy, and, nice bonus: you’ll also learn a harmonized part (or at least take home the sheet), so you can play it with your ukulele friend(s) or even club. Intermediate through advanced.
